Travel within Dartmoor

Road

Dartmoor is very easy to navigate by road. The A382 takes you from the north of the moor at Whiddon Down, through to Moretonhampstead. Here, take the B3212onto the very heart of the moor to Princetown. Here the road carries on down to Yelverton in the South.

From Bovey Tracey on the eastern edge of the moor, the B3387/B3357 takes you once again to Princetown and on to Tavistock in the West. Don't forget to take in the views and the ponies along the way.

Public Transport

Dartmoor has a good summer public transport network including buses and trains. The Haytor Hoppa is a scenic bus route, offering plenty of circular and linear walking opportunities. The Dartmoor Sunday Rover ticket gives unlimited travel for a day on a whole range of buses and trains across the moor and is a good day out in itself. Car free holidays

Dartmoor is a great place to come and leave your car behind. If you like to walk or cycle you can arrive by public transport and have a completely car free weekend or short break. The Dartmoor Way is a cycling and walking route linking some of Dartmoor's towns and villages with wonderful countryside. For further information, visit www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk.

Cycling

You can cycle on public roads, byways open to all traffic, public bridleways, dedicated cycle paths (such as the Granite Way) and Forestry Commission roads. To help you enjoy more of the moor on your bike, Dartmoor National Park Authority has produced a comprehensive map of Dartmoor, showing tried and tested cycle routes, whether you are cycling off-road or touring. The off-road routes have been graded and colour coded by cyclists so that you can easily identify the paths that will suit your ability and mood.  The map includes enlargements of the Tamar Valley AONB and Haldon Forest Park and shows public transport hubs.
