Beckwood Cottage

Beckwood Cottage

Wake up to the sound of the waterfalls at this beautifully-located stone-built cottage, located within Dartmoor's famous Becky Falls Woodland Park and very comfortably furnished with a mixture of antique and contemporary furniture.

The cottage comprises 3 bedrooms, one with a 6' bed and ensuite shower room, a double bedroom and a twin bedroom plus another bathroom. There is a living room with sofa bed (sleeps 2) and woodburning stove, TV, DVD and CD player with a small DVD and CD library. Adjoining is a well-equipped farmhouse style kitchen/diner with fridge/freezer and dishwasher and a utility room, with washer/dryer. Full central heating, towels and linen included. Outside patio area with picnic tables and barbeque.

Set in one of the most stunning parts of Dartmoor, the cottage has literary connections with the poet Rupert Brooke and the author Virginia Woolf both having stayed here whilst visiting the Falls, which have been a visitor attraction since 1903.

The cottage is seperate to the attraction (which is open to the public seasonally) and rental includes free daily admission. Becky Falls comprises over 50 acres of ancient woodland, waterfalls and walking trails, an on-site licensed cafeteria and gift shop and there's a full programme of children's entertainment during the school holidays, including puppet shows, animal feeding and storytime sessions, perfect for children. There are also lots of animals to meet and feed, including lambs, rabbits, miniature Shetland and Dartmoor ponies, chipmunks, etc.

The area is a walker's paradise, with footpaths leading directly from the estate to the open moor and nearby are Haytor, Hound Tor (which is reputed to have inspired Sherlock Holme's Hound of the Baskervilles) and Bowerman's Nose. Babysitting available locally.

Open All Year 1 Jan 2008 - 31 Dec 2008
