If you're looking for a challenging horseback trek across windswept moors, a relaxing stroll through secluded woods or exhilarating canoeing and climbing you've come to the right place - Dartmoor has it all.

Beginner or expert, here are just some of the activities you can enjoy on Dartmoor:


CANOEING ON DARTMOOR

 

The magnificent white water of the River Dart on Dartmoor, is considered by many canoeists to be amongst the best mid-grade runs in the west - particularly after heavy winter rains. See Dartmoor National Park Canoeing Guidelines for more details.

DARTMOOR CLIMBING

 

Dartmoor’s granite tors are a magnet for climbers and boulderers. Set amongst some of the most dramatic scenery in the West Country they offer interesting and demanding climbs for all abilities. See Dartmoor National Park Climbing Booklet for details.

 

 


 

CYCLING ON DARTMOOR

 

Whether you are a passionate pedaller or just a casual cyclist Dartmoor has everything you could wish for - safe, traffic-free trails and quiet forest tracks, steep rugged off-road routes for keen mountain bikers, and historic rural lanes to enjoy at your own pace. FLY FISHING ON DARTMOOR

Find wild fish in wild places! You could hook up with a wild brown trout, sea trout or even a salmon on the East or West Dart or Cherry Brook, to name but a few. On Dartmoor, forget graceful casts - fly fishing here is all about stealth and practicality!

Day tickets are available on the Duchy of Cornwall (01822 890205) waters from various locations in and around the Moor, which must be purchased before fishing. An up to date EA license is also needed (01392 444000).

GOLF ON DARTMOOR

 

Wherever you choose to play golf on Dartmoor you can be sure the scenery from the links will be stunning. Dartmoor creates the ideal moorland backdrop for beginners and experienced players to enjoy. The map below will give you more details of courses you can enjoy.

 


Horse Riding in Dartmoor National Park

DARTMOOR HORSE RIDING

 

Beginners and more experienced horse riders all agree that riding across Dartmoor is hard to beat. You can ride out on the open moor - provided it's common land, trot along woodland trails and bridleways, or historic byways linking towns and villages.


DARTMOOR LETTERBOXING

 

Dartmoor Letterboxing is a challenge to find cunningly concealed boxes using clues supplied on sheets and in books. There are thousands of hidden letterboxes on Dartmoor, each usually containing a visitor's book and a stamp for recording your achievement. Some say it's like looking for a needle in a haystack! NORDIC WALKING

 

Enjoy Dartmoor's newest activity - Nordic Walking. Nordic Walking offers an all round fitness training for all ability and stamina levels. It uses 90% of the body's muscles and is especially good for exercising the upper body. To give you an idea - running uses only 70% of the body's muscles. SWIMMING

 

Enjoy swimming indoors at Meadowlands Leisure Pool in Tavistock, with sessions to suit everyone, or enjoy an outdoors swim in the summer at Chagford Pool.


 

WALKING ON DARTMOOR

 

Create your own walk, or follow one of the many planned routes in leaflets and books lasting from an hour to a full day. Or join one of the many Dartmoor National Park Authority walks led by a guide with a wealth of local knowledge see Dartmoor National Park Guided Walks

 


 

WILD CAMPING ON DARTMOOR
