Start/End point: Grey Wethers, nr Chagford
Climb the slopes above a lovely reservoir and head out on a trail linking two 5,000-years-old stone circles. The Grey Wethers Stone Circles were created for the ritual worship of sun, moon and stars, and possibly align with them to time the seasons. They were reputedly sold by an enterprising farmer, one damp and misty night, to a stranger who thought they were a flock of sheep. The majestic Scorhill Stone Circle lies close to a tolmen (or 'holed') stone, said to cure sufferers from rheumatism or whooping cough.
This walk is suitable for active family groups ans is mainly on good paths and open moorland. Please keep dogs on leads over the moorland.
